The first update to the 2021 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro from Apple is anticipated this month. This is everything we know about the M2 Pro cpu and M2 Max cpu in the MacBook Pro laptops so far.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that work on these two MacBooks is doing well, so there’s hope that Apple will be able to deliver them soon.
Gurman is still considered a go-to source for information on impending Apple devices. Gurman discusses the impending M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pros in his most recent Power On newsletter. These 14- and 16-inch machines are slated to debut Apple’s updated M2 chip as a follow-up to last year’s MacBook Pros.
Since the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro both debuted with brand-new designs in October 2021, it is not unexpected that there have been no rumors of any big design modifications for either model. MagSafe and HDMI ports have been brought back, and the display has been revamped with a notch and a higher-resolution 1080p camera with lower bezels.
It’s safe to assume that the MacBook Pro will return in its two original hues, space gray and silver. Although, something has changed since the previous batch of MacBook Pros. This deeper aluminum coating, nicknamed “midnight,” was introduced by Apple in June. This dark blue metal finish has only been seen on the MacBook Air.
The new midnight blue shade would give the MacBook Pro a more modern appearance and make it the first notebook to use an all-black keyboard. This would be a nice option to silver and space gray while many people are still waiting for an all-black MacBook Pro.
Early speculation indicated that Apple’s M2 Pro and M2 Max CPUs will be manufactured on a 3nm manufacturing node. Kuo, however, has lately claimed that the first part of 2023 is when Apple will begin adopting the 3nm process. This suggests that the M2 chips will likely continue to use the tried-and-true 5nm process, while the M3 processors may be built on a newer 3nm technology.
When compared to the M1 chip, both the M1 Pro and the M1 Max are clearly superior. It’s unclear if the M2’s successors, the M2 Pro and M2 Max, will include the same generation-skipping boost in GPU core count and RAM as their predecessors did, but we should expect something along those lines.
There have been rumors about a new Mac Pro tower including M2 Ultra and “M2 Extreme” chips, as well as a new Mac mini with an M2 Pro chip.
